A new quote from 2015 has resurfaced. The quote reveals how some at the people at the Oscars feel about the anime medium:
When a movie is that successful and culturally hits all the right chords and does that kind of box-office, for that movie not to be in over these two obscure freakin’ Chinese f*ckin’ things that nobody ever freakin’ saw? That is my biggest bitch. Most people didn’t even know what they were! How does that happen? That, to me, is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen.
There you go folks, the extent of knowledge and sophistication about animation those in charge of reviewing and judging the medium apparently have: They don’t even know what many of the acclaimed works are. Can someone remind me again why we care about what these “people” think? Or why we care about their corporate-paid, self-congratulations?
