Tokyopop Translates German Manga and Light Novels from English Releases
Tokyopop Germany general manager Susanne Hellweg has revealed that the German releases of their manga and light novel titles are translated from the English releases and not the original Japanese editions.
Some vague explanation concerning translation not needing to be 100% accurate but respecting “The nature and atmosphere of the original work” was given, however, the real reason was soon enough brought to light:

If this has already been successful, for example in English, this may be a better choice than a translation from Japanese by translators who are not comfortable with the content or the translation of a continuous text or who have not yet had a background in the book’s subject matter…
It must be heartwarming to know your content is going to be censored because the paid “professionals” handling it don’t feel like doing their job.

My Girlfriend is a Shobitch Censored in the UK
The upcoming United Kingdom release of My Girlfriend is a Shobitch has been censored by the BBFC for reasons of “scenes that portray a child in a sexualized context” in the series’ third episode. The removed scenes amount to 2 minutes and 50 seconds and focus on the flashbacks of Kosaka as a toddler.
The U.S. blu-ray release of the series remained uncensored.
