Blue Exorcist Goes on Hiatus

Kazue Kato’s popular manga will go on hiatus in Jump SQ, which will last until April of 2022 (Magazine’s 5th issue of the year). While his manga is on hiatus, Kazue will draw a short serialization for the magazine starting in September of this year which will be based on Fuyumi Ono’s Eizen Karu ka ya Kaiitan novel.

Shonen Jump Reality Show!

Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ has just revealed MILLION TAG: A new “battle audition” reality show designed to discover the “next star manga creator”. It will last for 8 episodes and will debut on YouTube on July 2 at 6:00 p.m. The program will follow 6 teams that will include a manga creator and an editor who will compete in four challenges with the victor getting 45 000 US$ as well as his manga serialized in Shonen Jump+. An anime adaptation of said manga is also promised.

Hatsu Kiss Magazine Shuts Down

Kodansha’s Hatsu Kiss digital publication has just shut down. The following is a list of manga that have moved to the Palcy app:

  • Bukiyo-kun to Kataomoi no Uta
  • Isekai Heritage
  • Hoshikuzu Safari

New Series Launching

  • Furuki Okite no Mah? Kishi (The Fairy Knight Lives with Old Rules): Taro Hitsuji’s light novel series of the same name is being adapted into a manga by Yoshihiro Kawabata set for publication on July 27.
  • Gene Bride: Hitomi Tanako is launching the new manga in the Feel Young magazine. The story centers on a school event in which genetic information is matched to create a student couple for a day.
  • Jin the Tailwind (Oikaze no Jin): Yoshitaka Ushiki will launch the series on July 21 in Manga Time Kirara Forward. The manga’s story focuses on a young man who works for a delivery company along with a straightforward and energetic young woman. The manga’s tagline reads “When the wind blows, the adventure begins”.
  • Neru: Martial Arts Travelling (Neru: Bugei Dogyo): Created by Minya Hiraga, it focuses on a self-taught martial artist who attempts to get into a martial arts school of famed families. It will launch in Weekly Shonen Jump on July 5.
  • Ore no Imoto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai Kuroneko if: Oreimo spinoff launched by Airi Mori scheduled for July 26. The manga is based on an alternate ending to the novels in which Kyousuke ends up with Kuroneko.
  • Red Hood: Yuki Kawaguchi is launching the new series in Weekly Shonen Jump on June 28. The series focuses on a young man who meets a hunter in a village in this “New generation hunting fantasy” story. The first chapter will have 54 pages.
  • Shaman King Faust8: Eliza the Eternal: Kakeru Kobashiri’s Shaman King spinoff novel will be adapted into a manga by Aya Tanaka and will launch on the Magazine Pocket app on July 3.
  • The Pig’s Revenge (Buta no Fukushu): Sau Nito (Writer) and Takayoshi Kuroda (Drawing) are premiering the new series on July 26. The tagline is “One boy bullied by his classmates takes his gruesome revenge in another world.” along with “You treated me like a pig. I’ll kill every demonic classmate who ever bullied me.”

Series Ending Report

  • APOSIMZ: Tsutomu Nihei’s manga will end in two chapters presumably on August 25.
  • Chihayafuru: Yuki Suetsugu’s manga is heading towards the climax as of the 47th volume, which will ship on August 12.
  • Saint Seiya: Next Dimension – The Myth of Hades: Masami Kurumada’s current “season” of his manga is heading towards a climax.
  • Tamiko to Visual-kei to (Tamiko and the Visual-kei Man and…): Yushi Kawata and Yukito published the final chapter of their series recently. The series ended on chapter 41.
  • Warikitta Kankei Desu kara (Because It’s a Divided Relationship): Flowerchild’s manga has published its last chapter with an epilogue set for publication in the September issue of Comic Yuri Hime.
