Boruto is Popular

Sounds like a strange title but with the new series navigating new waters and the fanbase being divided over its worth many have probably wondered just how well or bad Boruto has been doing. Turns out, quite good. Despite not having home video sales outside of Japan yet, Boruto came in 3rd as the series bringing in the most sales for TV Tokyo for the period of March 2017 to March 2018. It also came in 5th for gross profits.

Here is the full list of the top 5 series:

Sales:

  1. Naruto
  2. Yu-Gi-Oh!
  3. Boruto
  4. Gintama
  5. Pokémon

Gross Profits:

  1. Naruto
  2. Pokémon
  3. Yu-Gi-Oh!
  4. Gintama
  5. Boruto

This is interesting in that it indicates the franchise has maintained its popularity in spite of the main series ending and the new manga being released at a slower pace. It also vindicates, I believe, my earlier claim that Naruto has defended its position amongst the new Big 3 even as the series shifted to a new generation.
