Crunchyroll has just announced that it will stream How to Keep a Mummy and Working Buddies.

Anime Now Closes
Anime Consortium Japan just announced that it is closing its website, Anime Now, on January 31st. This is the latest blow to the Japanese led initiative at “cutting the middleman” that follows the closing of Daisuki streaming service in October of last year. Anime Now was also a sister site of Anime News Network, who used to repost articles for them.

Physical Releases Still Matter
Sho Tanaka, producer at Kadokawa, recently had an interview where he admitted that the anime industry is changing but added that physical releases of anime still have a chief importance in their business model. For now it seems, the industry still finds packaged sales as the indicator they rely on.
Right now, packaged sales are not prospering (In Japan) but that doesn’t change the fact that they still account for a lot in an anime’s success ratio.

Yamakan Joins Cryptocurrency Phase
Director Yutaka Yamamoto is creating Twilight Coin with the stated aim of allowing more direct support of the industry by its fans and hopefully, improve conditions for animators. A noble sentiment and while it can be said that crypto currencies are the anarchists’ money, it’s still no guarantee of success. I guess we’ll have to see how all of these initiatives pan out in 2018.
