With the year coming to a close, we finally have some numbers from Oricon to see what topped the market in 2017.
Best Selling Overall Franchises:
1: One Piece
2: your name.
3: The IDOLM@STER
4: Touken Ranbu
5: Attack on Titan
Few surprises, although with Touken Ranbu making the top 5 I assume media aimed at a female audiences in Japan are doing pretty good.
Best Selling Anime in General:
1: your name.
2: Yuri!!! on Ice
3: Granblue Fantasy the Animation
4: Love Live! Sunshine!!
5: Utano Princesama: Legend Star
I am omitting any non-Japanese works as this this list is focused solely on anime sales. On a side note, it seems Granblue was actually quite popular. It’s sort of sad it didn’t get more exposure in the west but hopefully someone can make a decent home video release at some point, assuming they’re allowed <sigh>
