Special VR Project Launched

Tokyo Otaku Mode just announced a global crowdfunding campaign to create an anime themed VR experience they are calling One Room. The page for the funding process can be accessed here. Tokyo Otaku Mode provided a short description of what they are trying to do:

One Room is a short anime series presented in first-person from “your” (the viewer’s) perspective that depicts “your” daily life with Yui Hanasaka, the girl who moved in next door. Many fans have requested to have the series converted into VR content for an enhanced sense of reality and immersion.

For the VR anime to be produced through this project, Gugenka®, a team specializing in Japanese digital content and merchandise involving VR/AR/MR, has combined Apple’s ARKit technology and VR content to make position tracking possible. Features that measure the location data of app users to allow for in-game movement, which has been unavailable in smartphone VR content until now, will be included.

The global crowdfunding project will be launched to raise funds necessary for bringing the brand new “One Room” VR anime experience to fans around the world. If the project reaches its 500,000 yen goal (about 4,500 US Dollar), English subtitles will be added, and the app will be distributed worldwide. Among the list of backer rewards is a special voice recording of Hanasaka Yui (voiced by M.A.O) calling the backer’s name, which is available in a very limited quantity.
