The Oscars this year decided to continue their long held tradition of giving the middle finger to anime and fans were not surprised. How could they be when the passing years have made it obvious the Oscars are only a circle jerk of shills where the biggest companies go to give each other awards.

However, fans were angry this time around. The reason why could be easily explained by the fact that even though everyone knows the Oscars are controlled by the big corporations of Hollywood, they haven’t been so brazen about their corruption and collusion in the past. Indeed this year saw garbage like Boss Baby take a nomination over titles like Mary and the Witch’s Flower, In this Corner of the World and A Silent Voice. Yep, no anime made it this year. What’s even the point of watching an event if artistic quality of the works isn’t even a consideration?
